Update on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) and Gaza on Monday, November 7, 2022

Agence Media Palestine

Since the last update from the Agence Média Palestine, the unleashing of colonial violence against the Palestinians has intensified.

In the West Bank, the Palestinians of Nablus have for several weeks been the targets of raids by Israeli forces, which besiege the city.

Attacks and arrests are massive and the Israeli occupation forces do not hesitate to use violence and administrative detention procedures, without charges or trial, against Palestinians.

Israeli settlers and their occupying forces continue to encircle and attack the West Bank in revenge following the clashes on Saturday, October 29, 2022 in the illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba, Hebron. A new blockade has been put in place by the Israeli armed forces around the city of Hebron, while the city of Nablus is still under siege.

On Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Hebron, a thirty-five-year-old man was killed during an Israeli army raid. On Sunday October 30, 2022, in Jericho, a forty-nine-year-old man was also murdered. On the night of Monday, October 31 to Tuesday, November 1, 2022, Israeli settlers threw stones at the Palestinians of Sheikh Jarrah.

A shooting that took place near a checkpoint in Hebron also left one Palestinian dead.

On Monday, October 31, 2022, an Israeli soldier shot at a helpless Palestinian in Hebron. The Palestinian received a live bullet in the leg. On Monday, October 31, 2022, Israeli occupying forces demolished a Palestinian residential building in the village of al Baqaa, east of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

Settler attacks on Palestinian crops during the olive harvest continue with increased frequency. On Friday, October 28, 2022, the car of Israeli photographer journalist Oren Ziv and ten other cars were damaged by Israeli settlers during the olive harvest in Jibya.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, a Palestinian was killed by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank, near the Maccabim checkpoint. On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the Israeli army said it had arrested ten Palestinians in overnight arrest raids across the West Bank.

This unleashing of violence is rooted in the context of the Israeli legislative elections of Tuesday, November 1, 2022, which led to the election of Binyamin Netanyahu and for which millions of Palestinians in the West Bank were unable to vote, even though the Israeli forces exercise a very strong control over their lives.

The violence once again peaked on Thursday November 3, 2022 when a Palestinian was murdered during a raid on Jenin.

On Friday, November 4, 2022, the Israeli air force carried out an aerial bombing operation in the Gaza Strip, targeting in particular Hamas underground military sites, according to an Israeli army statement. These strikes actually serve to keep the civilian population, which has suffered a particularly violent blockade since 2007, in terror.

On Saturday, November 5, 2022, an 18-year-old Palestinian man died from a bullet wound to the heart from Israeli occupation forces near Ramallah in the West Bank.
