If Anthony Housefather’s car was set ablaze, would it be linked to Palestine and antisemitism? Why is confirmed and probable Zionist violence treated differently? Should we also be pointing a figure at those inciting it?
In the middle of the night Wednesday Liberal MP Salma Zaid had her car set ablaze. Video shows a man pouring gasoline on five cars in her Scarborough driveway. He succeeds in burning two of them and runs off when the gas container catches fire. Reportedly, cars were also set ablaze near the MP’s house in 2024.
The prime minister and leader of the main opposition parties, as well as multiple Muslim organizations, expressed their solidarity with Zaid. Conspicuously, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, B’nai Brith and Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center have stayed mum on the (probably) hate motivated arson. Ditto for Zaid’s ultra–Jewish supremacist Liberal colleague Anthony Housefather. In fact, I couldn’t find any comment on the matter from a mainstream Jewish Zionist organization.
An arson at the home of Canada’s first veiled MP, who has been the party’s most vocal critic of Israel’s genocide and apartheid, follows on the heels of an assault by a Jewish Zionist at a Palestine rally in Montreal. As I reported, Robert Moisecu shoved a camera into a photographer’s face, screamed slurs and uttered death threats against an Arab during a pro-Palestinian rally on Monday. More information has emerged about the scope of the former Israeli soldier’s criminal background. As late as last year Moisecu was caught robbing a restaurant and in 2015 he killed a British tourist in Tel Aviv with a fatal dose of fentanyl.
In a violent, racist, Substack post boasting about his actions Monday Moisecu admits, “Yes.. I was a terrible human being. I killed.. robbed.. assaulted.. used narcotics.. smoked.. fucked and drank my way through life.. everyone has their idiosyncrasies. Believe it or not… I have changed.”

He has a criminal record dating back to 1988, including six armed burglaries and the robbing of a bank in upstate New York! His last robbery was of a restaurant at gun point in 2025. In “‘Bad’ Jews like me… won’t stay silent” Moisecu utters multiple threats and concludes, “We are at war. we are active combatants whether you know it or not. Trotsky once said, ‘You may not be interested in war, but war may be interested in you.’ Arm the fuck up.”
At the bottom of a commentary noting “I may as well use my innate predisposition to kinetic conflict resolution in the defense of western civilization”, Moisecu includes two posts with my name marked prominently and another with a photo of Toronto journalist Samira Mohyeddin.
Moisecu followed up his Substack rant with another post explicitly threatening to attack the next pro-Palestinian demonstration in Montreal.
(After popular outrage online, the Montreal police announced that their hate crimes unit was investigating his actions at the Monday rally. They haven’t, however, arrested Moisecu despite his threats. In contrast, the Montreal police jailed me for five days in a failed bid to impose onerous conditions regarding a charge they ultimately dropped.)
Local Jewish organizations, fighting in IOF, family living in illegal Israeli settlement, etc. likely radicalized Moisecu. More specifically, three days before the Montreal city council vote, former Conservative party candidate Neil Oberman released a video calling on Zionists to “go down there … [to show] we reject your impairment, we reject your sickness.” Montreal’s leading Zionist lawfare activist angrily added “take back our city, take back our province, take back our country, take back your dignity.”
Did Oberman’s word influence Moisecu?
Similarly, was the person responsible for the arson at Zaid’s home influenced by the violent rhetoric coming from the newly created Jewish Defence Force? The former head of the fascistic Jewish Defence League, Meir Weinstein, recently set up a Toronto organization named after the genocidal Israeli Defence Force.

Robert Moisecu, a self-professed proud Zionist, who harassed and threatened individuals who had shown up for the motion at Montreal City Hall on asking the City of Montreal to cut ties with Israel’s genocidal apartheid regime, could just as well have been with the Jewish Zionist terrorists in the occupied Palestinian West Bank, killing defenseless Palestinian villagers, burning Palestinian homes and laying siege to Palestinian villages with absolute impunity.
But what is to be noted is the absolute impunity with which Moisecu was able to insult, intimidate and threaten several of the above-mentioned individuals while also shoving the camera of a photographer into the photographer’s face, all this without any attempt at police intervention. A Montreal policeman approached but did nothing other than talk to Moisecu. No arrest.
That may seem to be an anomaly, but the opposite is true in Montreal as it is in Toronto. In Montreal, it is current policy to intervene against pro-Palestinian activists protesting Israeli brutality and crimes committed against Palestinians in Gaza, in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. In comparison, Zionist organizations, using a false notion of antisemitism, need only point to pro-Palestinian activists’ critique of Israeli atrocities as ‘antisemitic,’ and we can rest assured that the Montreal SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal), at the behest of local authorities, will be ‘Johnny-on-the-spot’ to intervene against the pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
Consider Yves Engler’s reference to this fact (‘fact’ not ‘fiction’) in the following passage:
It is revealing to contrast Moisescu’s treatment with what opponents of genocide have faced. In my case, the Montreal police hate crimes unit charged me for responding to a Zionist influencer’s racist, pro-genocide, statements on X (I didn’t make any threats). More pertinent, the Toronto police recently charged Palestinian Canadian Ahmad Hajahmad with “Participating in or Contributing to Activities of a Terrorist Group” for (purportedly) offering rhetorical support for Hamas’ armed resistance to Israeli colonial rule at two rallies in 2024.
This is not accidental; it is structural. It is part and parcel of the Zionist-supported crackdown on the pro-Palestinian movement happening throughout Western society. It is, in effect, an anti-Palestinian racism supported by politicians – with few dissenting politicians – at every level of government in Canada: municipal, provincial and federal. Montreal falls within that structural discrimination.
What is noteworthy here is the fact that the Montreal police hate-crimes section decided to launch an investigation into Robert Moisecu only after a video put on YouTube by journalist Samira Mohyeddin went viral. Had that not been the case, we can take for granted that no such action would have been undertaken by the Montreal police. That reflects the discriminatory policy of both the municipal government of Montreal and the SPVM as regards the pro-Palestinian movement in Montreal.
The following points are to be duly noted:
- To our knowledge, there have been no denunciations of the Moisecu event from any Zionist organization anywhere in Canada nor from any stalwart Zionist politicians such as Anthony Housefather, Irwin Cotler or Melissa Lantsman. They are quick, however, to label as ‘antisemitic’ any severe critique of Israel’s brutal and criminal policy toward the Palestinians.
- The Mayor of Montreal, Soraya Martinez Ferrada and her governing Ensemble Montréal party, amended the motion presented by the opposition members of Projet Montréal to such an extent that it is little more than a symbolic gesture of solidarity, as insignificant in meaning as the penchant to refer to the ‘Two-State Solution,’( on the part of equally insignificant politicians), where a Palestinian state in an absolute impossibility. That is what we refer to as ‘structural anti-Palestinian discrimination.’
- The Montreal police follow a policy of targeting pro-Palestinian activists in Montreal. While PAJU calls for a thorough investigation of Robert Moisecu by the SPVM, we also call for an investigation into Montreal police practices vis-à-vis the pro-Palestinian movement in Montreal and a closer look at the way in which Zionist groups such as the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and the B’nai Brith may exert pressure on both the Montreal municipal government and the Montreal police as regards pro-Palestinian activists.
