Palestinian Authority (PA) forces arrested journalist Aqil Awawdeh on 13 July after he refuted a statement from PA officials claiming there are no political arrests in the occupied West Bank.

United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese stated that Israel has turned all occupied Palestinian territories into an open-air prison, where its inhabitants are constantly confined, monitored, and punished.
