{"id":2984,"date":"2021-03-05T07:23:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T07:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paju.org\/?p=2984"},"modified":"2021-03-05T18:23:38","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T18:23:38","slug":"end-of-occupation-no-1047","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paju.org\/fr\/end-of-occupation-no-1047\/","title":{"rendered":"End of Occupation \u00bb No 1047"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Israel moving to protect hundreds of personnel against ICC probe<\/h3>\n<p><strong>By Dan Williams<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KEREM SHALOM, Israel (Reuters) &#8211; Israel estimates that hundreds of its citizens might be subject to war crimes probes by the International <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2981 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1047.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/>Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction it rejects, and is working on how to protect them, the Defence Minister said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Including himself among Israelis who could be threatened with arrest, Benny Gantz told Reuters: \u201cI was never afraid to go across enemy lines, I will continue to stand wherever I have to.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Hague-based tribunal ruled last month that it has jurisdiction over the occupied West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. The ruling could lead to criminal investigations of Israel and of Palestinian militant groups including Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>Israel is not a member of the court and rejects its jurisdiction, a position backed by its close ally the United States. Palestinians have welcomed the ruling as a chance for justice for victims of Israeli attacks.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on Israel\u2019s fortified border with Gaza, Gantz, who also holds Israel\u2019s justice portfolio, called the ruling a \u201cnegative development\u201d and added: \u201cWe have our own teams working in different (places) to try (and) influence (the ICC).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gantz was the military\u2019s chief of staff during a 2014 war between Israel and militants in Hamas-controlled Gaza. The ICC has pointed to that conflict as a potential issue to be probed.<\/p>\n<p>Asked by Reuters how many Israelis, including himself, might expect to be subject to arrest should the probe lead to criminal investigations, Gantz said: \u201cI guess several hundred, but we will take care of everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gantz called that \u201can estimate\u201d, declining to say if Israel had drawn up a list of officials.
