{"id":2462,"date":"2019-12-27T21:47:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-27T21:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paju.org\/?p=2462"},"modified":"2019-12-26T21:53:24","modified_gmt":"2019-12-26T21:53:24","slug":"end-of-occupation-no-985","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paju.org\/fr\/end-of-occupation-no-985\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00ab End of Occupation \u00bb No 985"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Israeli settlers set Catholic Church in Galilee on fire<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Dec 20, 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Galilee church where Jesus was believed to have performed miracle of feeding <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2459 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/985-300x132.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"93\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/985-300x132.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/985-1024x449.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/985-768x337.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/985.jpeg 1140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/>5,000 followers was set alight in arson attack carried out by extremist Jewish settlers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hebrew graffiti was also scrawled across the walls of Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish.<\/p>\n<p>An adviser to the Catholic Church blamed Jewish extremists for the \u201cdeplorable\u201d attack after Israeli police said there is a \u201cstrong possibility\u201d the fire was started deliberately.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The current structure was built on the remains of a fifth-century Byzantine church at Tabgha on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, where many Christians believe Jesus fed 5,000 followers with just five loaves and two fish.<\/p>\n<p>Police confirmed there was extensive damage to both inside and outside the building after the fire broke out in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n<p>A monk and a church volunteer were hospitalised from smoke inhalation, but the incredibly, the prayer area was unaffected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s deplorable, absolutely deplorable,\u201d Father Gregory Collins, head of the Order of Saint Benedict in Israel, said. \u201cI consider such an attack to be not just an attack on a religious site, on a sanctuary, but also on one of the most visited places in Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also an attack on freedom of speech, democracy and the right to live here,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>This incident, which happened in June 2015, was not the first such attack to be carried by the extremist Jewish settlers against Palestinian Muslim and Christian holy sites.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, mosques and churches have been targeted by vandals in similar attacks.
