After claiming that a rocket was fired from Gaza on a town north of Tel Aviv, the Israeli army sent two army brigades \u2013 amounting to over 1,000 soldiers \u2013 to the Gaza fence and called up reservists from aerial units in preparation for air strikes.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1908 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/946-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/946-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/paju.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/946.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Israel also locked down the Gaza Strip, closing the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) and Erez (Beit Hanoun) crossings which allow goods and medical supplies into the enclave. It also reduced the fishing zone it imposes off Gaza\u2019s Mediterranean coast, further blockading the territory.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu \u2013 who also serves as the country\u2019s defence minister \u2013 cut short his trip to the US to oversee the assault, returning to Israel \u201cto manage our operations up close\u201d.
