Justin Trudeau\u2019s pack of lies about BDS\"\"<\/h3>\n

I spoke to The Real News<\/em> about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\u2019s<\/a> renewed attacks and smears<\/a> against the BDS \u2013 boycott, divestment and sanctions \u2013 movement for Palestinians rights.<\/p>\n

During a town hall meeting<\/a> at Brock University in Ontario this week, one questioner asked Trudeau to retract his previous smears that the BDS movement is anti-Semitic.<\/p>\n

Instead, the Liberal Party prime minister doubled down, claiming that the anti-racist<\/a> BDS movement targets Jews.<\/p>\n

Trudeau asserted \u201cthat anti-Semitism has also manifested itself not just as targeting of individuals but it is also targeting a new condemnation, or an anti-Semitism against the very state of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trudeau\u2019s refusal to distinguish between Jews and Judaism on the one hand, and Israel and its state ideology Zionism, on the other, is, I told The Real News<\/em>, itself an anti-Semitic move.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The prime minister also repeated the claim that \u201cJewish students still feel unwelcome and uncomfortable on some of our college and university campuses because of BDS-related intimidation\u201d \u2013 a frequent smear by Israel lobby groups aimed at criminalizing Palestine solidarity activism by students.<\/p>\n

I told The Real News<\/em> that Trudeau was spouting a pack of lies about the BDS movement and echoing Israeli government talking points.<\/p>\n

While he is claiming to defend \u201cCanadian values,\u201d I said that Trudeau is actually smearing Canadians, including Jewish Canadians<\/a>, who fully support Palestinian rights.<\/p>\n

Trudeau is taking his cues from Canada\u2019s powerful Israel lobby<\/strong> \u2013 indeed in his answer Trudeau cited as one of his sources his \u201cfriend\u201d Irwin Cotler<\/a>, one of Canada\u2019s top pro-Israel propagandists.<\/p>\n

However, as opinion surveys show, Trudeau is out of step with a majority of Canadians<\/a> who view BDS tactics as a reasonable way for Palestinians to pursue their rights in the face of the complicity and inaction of the so-called international community.<\/p>\n
