The argument that we should not mix politics and sports is false. Government financing of sports is clearly political when a participant has the aim of promoting Israeli Apartheid. \nThe Union Cycliste International (UCI) has banned Russian and Belarus teams from its international calendar including the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and Québec. Most Russian and Belarus athletes have not taken a position on the war in Ukraine. \nThe Israel Premier Tech (Israel Start-up Nation) has proclaimed itself an ambassador of Israel to the world and requires that all its racers also be ambassadors for Israel. \nThe Grand Prix must not be used to promote Israeli Apartheid. \nValérie Plante: Why not respect the human rights of the Palestinian people?\nWhy not boycott Israel Premier Tech? \nHave questions for our elected officials? The City of Montreal is a public partner of this international sporting event. The City therefore assumes an important part of ethical responsibility in the promotion of this prestigious\, high-calibre competition. \nWe should remember that during the campaign of boycott\, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against apartheid in South Africa in 1986\, the former mayor of Montreal\, Jean Doré\, declared Montreal an anti-apartheid city and banned any commercial relations with South African suppliers. \n  \nNelson Mandela\, Winnie Mandela\, le maire Jean Doré\, sur la scène du Champ-de-Mars\, le 19 juin 1990.
