SUMMARY:Export of “Battle-Tested” Technology
DESCRIPTION:The New Alliance Between India & Israel\nConference – Export of “Battle-Tested” Technology and Unholy Alliances \nA conversation with Azad Essa\, \nAuthor of Hostile Homelands : The New Alliance Between India & Israel. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/876262987250974 \nPlease share widely \nIn recent times\, Hindutva and Zionist governments in India and Israel have increasingly come closer at the expense of the Palestinian people and the many minority groups of India\, particularly Muslims. This is in stark contrast to when India was part of a family of nations that stood in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice\, self-determination and decolonization. But for a decade now\, ruling establishments of both countries\, mostly the BJP and Likud\, have signed numerous defense contracts worth billions of dollars. It is crucial for us to recall that these are often deals including military hardware that are shamelessly touted as\, ‘battlefield tested’ – referring to the constant\, genocidal violence the Israeli military inflicts on the people living in the West Bank and Gaza. These weapons are then sold to countries such as India. \nForces of Hindutva Fascism have been taking out leaves  from the Zionist playbook\, including the usage of the spurious term ‘Hinduphobia’ to silence any form of criticism towards the Modi regime’s actions. They have invented ‘Hinduphobia’ so it can be weaponized in ways akin to how anti-Semitism is used to silence critics of Israel\, to attack the BDS movement\, etc. In saluting the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people to the ongoing  Israeli occupation and related human-rights abuses\, we look forward to future governments in India to return to the traditional  stance of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. \nAbout the book\, Hostile Homelands: The New Alliance Between India & Israel\, via @Leftwingbooks*: \nUnder Narendra Modi\, India has changed dramatically. As the world attempts to grapple with its trajectory towards authoritarianism and a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ (Hindu State)\, little attention has been paid to the linkages between Modi’s India and the governments from which it has drawn inspiration\, as well as military and technical support. \nIndia once called Zionism racism\, but\, as Azad Essa argues\, the state of Israel has increasingly become a cornerstone of India’s foreign policy. Looking to replicate the ‘ethnic state’ in the image of Israel in policy and practice\, the annexation of Kashmir increasingly resembles Israel’s settler-colonial project of the occupied West Bank. The ideological and political linkages between the two states are alarming; their brands of ethnonationalism deeply intertwined. \nHostile Homelands puts India’s relationship with Israel in its historical context\, looking at the origins of Zionism and Hindutva; India’s changing position on Palestine; and the countries’ growing military-industrial relationship from the 1990s. Lucid and persuasive\, Essa demonstrates that the India-Israel alliance spells significant consequences for democracy\, the rule of law and justice worldwide. \n— \nAbout the Author: \nAzad Essa is an award-winning journalist and author based between Johannesburg and New York City. He is currently a senior reporter for Middle East Eye covering American foreign policy\, Islamophobia and race in the US. He is the author of The Moslems are Coming and Zuma’s Bastard and has written for Al Jazeera\, The Washington Post\, Foreign Policy and the Guardian. \nhttps://leftwingbooks.net/products/hostile-homelands-the-new-alliance-between-india-and-israel \nCo-organized by: \nSouth Asian Diaspora Action Collective (SADAC) \nCERAS (South Asia Forum) \nPalestinian and Jewish Unity (PAJU) \nAssociation facultaire étudiante des sciences humaines de l’UQAM (AFESH-UQAM) \nAssociation étudiante des cycles supérieurs en science politique et droit de l’UQAM (AECSSPD-UQAM) \nSponsored by: \nLeftWingBooks\nQuebec Public Interest Research Group – Concordia University  (QPIRG – C) \nOther references: \nThe Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World \nAntony Loewenstein \nhttps://www.perlego.com/book/3949029/the-palestine-laboratory-how-israel-exports-the-technology-of-occupation-around-the-world-pdf \nThe deepening of India–Israel defence ties | ORF \nhttps://www.orfonline.org/expert-speak/the-deepening-of-india-israel-defence-ties/ \nHindutva & Zionism – The Unholy Alliance \nhttps://www.palestine-studies.org/en/node/1652794 \nContact us at: \nsadac_info@riseup.net \ncerasmontreal@gmail.com \nInstagram/Twitter/Facebook: @sadacmtl

SUMMARY:On Bastille Day : FREE Georges Abdallah!
DESCRIPTION:A vigil calling for liberation of all political prisoners \nPalestinian and Jewish Unity\, invites you to attend a vigil in front of the French consulate in Montreal to honor all Palestinian prisoners and their allies and in particular freedom fighter\, Georges Abdallah\, jailed in France since 1984. \nThe Storming of the Bastille happened in Paris\, France\, on 14 July 1789\, when revolutionaries stormed and seized control of the medieval prison and released all political prisoners. \nThis July 14th\,  we will stand in solidarity with Georges Abdallah and all Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails. We demand Georges Abdallah’s immediate release from Lannemezan prison and recognize that political prisoners — whether they be in Zionist or French jails — are on the frontlines of the Palestinian struggle and we must always amplify their cause. \nEmbodying the Palestinian ethic of “sumud\,” or resilience\, Georges Abdallah continues to engage in the very same fight he was targeted for. Indeed\, during his detainment\, Georges Abdallah has repeatedly participated in hunger strikes and refused meals in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners inside occupation prisons. \nGeorges Abdallah is held as a political prisoner in Lannemezan prison in France. He is considered the longest serving political prisoner in Europe and has been eligible for release since 1999. However\, his release has been obstructed by the French and American governments at every turn. \nGeorges Abdallah was targeted for his commitment to the fight for Palestinian liberation\, for his role as a revolutionary thinker\, and his involvement in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Lebanese Revolutionary Armed Factions (LRAF). Georges Abdallah’s trial which sentenced him to life imprisonment in 1987 was marked by irregularities. One of his lawyers – Jean-Paul Mazurier – was revealed to be an agent for a French spy service and some of the evidence against Abdallah was also revealed to have been fabricated retroactively by French\, American and Israeli intelligence services. Despite this\, the validity of the trial and its results have never been formally contested despite numerous attempts. \nWe recognize that his arrest and detainment is an attempt to stifle the Palestinian and Lebanese revolutionary spirit. We also condemn the French regime whose detainment of George Abdallah is only possible because of their collaboration with the Zionist and American regimes. We also condemn the Lebanese regime for its shameful inaction which has allowed Georges to remain hostage to France’s collusion with the Zionist regime. As organisations\, movements\, and individuals in Quebec we affirm our full and complete solidarity with Georges Abdallah and demand his immediate release. We will continue to honor Georges Abdallah’s persistent fight until full liberation and return. Free Free Palestine! \n\nLocation: 1501 Av. SUMMARY:Webinar/Press Conference zoom
DESCRIPTION:Journalists are invited to ask questions following the presentations. If you will be attending\, please register at https://bit.ly/BennettJun13 & also let us know your name & organization by sending email to: info@justpeaceadvocates.ca prior to the event. \nDescription: \nOn May 29\, lawyers filed a request on behalf of a Palestinian-Canadian & 3 Canadian orgs asking the government declare former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett inadmissible to Canada before he is set to speak in Toronto on June 14. The request contended that Bennett should be denied entry to Canada pursuant to sections 35(1)(a) & (b) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. \nOn June 2\, 2023 an application for mandamus was filed in Federal Court. This asks a judge to compel the Minister of Public Safety to make a decision on Bennett’s admissibility.  The request to ban Bennett is specifically related to Bennett’s deep involvement in the development of illegal Israeli settlements in the Palestinian West Bank. According to a Peace Now report\, the Bennett government significantly increased the development of illegal settlements on Palestinian land. The report also refers to Bennett’s support for the eviction of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem in favor of establishing illegal settler housing units there. In addition\, he previously served as a Director of the Yesha Council – an organization that seeks to expand settlements. \nCanada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied since 1967 (the Golan Heights\, West Bank including East Jerusalem & Gaza Strip). In fact according to Canadian policy\, the UN\, & international law\, Israeli settlements are war crimes. As Bennett’s planned arrival approaches\, a pressing question lingers: will Canada uphold the rule of law? \nPanelists: Shane Martinez & Nicholas Pope\, lawyers who filed the complaint & mandamus application\, Michael Lynk\, Prof Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario & former Special UN Rapporteur for Occupied Palestine\, Khaled Mouammar\, Palestinian-Canadian\, a founder of the Canadian Arab Federation & former member of the Immigration Refugee Board of Canada (a signatory to the request.) \nSupporting organizations: Canadian Foreign Policy Institute\, Palestinian & Jewish Unity (PAJU)\, Just Peace Advocates. \nQuestions in French will be translated for the panelists\, and answers from the panelists in English\, translated to French \nRegistration for Webinar/Press Conference (Zoom); https://bit.ly/BennettJun13 \nContact: info@justpeaceadvocates.ca

DESCRIPTION:MONTREAL\nJoin us in front of the Zionist Consulate this May 14 as we march on the main streets of Montreal and forward toward liberation. SUMMARY:Valérie Boycott Israeli Apartheid
DESCRIPTION:Come ask Mayor Valérie Plante questions about the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. \nThe 2022 Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal will take place on September 11 in Montreal and to this end\, the City of Montreal is a public partner of the sporting event of international scope. The City therefore assumes an important part of ethical responsibility in the promotion of this prestigious\, high-caliber competition. \nFacing such serious crimes as apartheid and racism\, silence means approval. The argument that we should not mix politics and sports is false. Government financing of sports is clearly political when a participant has the aim of promoting Israeli Apartheid. \nThe Union Cycliste International (UCI) has banned Russian and Belarus teams from its international calendar including the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and Québec. Most Russian and Belarus athletes have not taken a position on the war in Ukraine. \nThe Israel Premier Tech (Israel Start-up Nation) has proclaimed itself an ambassador of Israel to the world and requires that all its racers also be ambassadors for Israel. \nThe Grand Prix must not be used to promote Israeli Apartheid. \nValérie Plante: Why not respect the human rights of the Palestinian people?\nWhy not boycott Israel Premier Tech? \nHave questions for our elected officials? Come ask them! \nA public question and answer period is held during each council meeting\, whether ordinary or extraordinary.\nEach person may ask only one question. \nHere’s how it works:\nhttps://montreal.ca/en/how-to/submit-question-to-city-council
