SUMMARY:Webinar/Press Conference zoom
DESCRIPTION:Journalists are invited to ask questions following the presentations. If you will be attending\, please register at https://bit.ly/BennettJun13 & also let us know your name & organization by sending email to: info@justpeaceadvocates.ca prior to the event. \nDescription: \nOn May 29\, lawyers filed a request on behalf of a Palestinian-Canadian & 3 Canadian orgs asking the government declare former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett inadmissible to Canada before he is set to speak in Toronto on June 14. The request contended that Bennett should be denied entry to Canada pursuant to sections 35(1)(a) & (b) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. \nOn June 2\, 2023 an application for mandamus was filed in Federal Court. This asks a judge to compel the Minister of Public Safety to make a decision on Bennett’s admissibility.  The request to ban Bennett is specifically related to Bennett’s deep involvement in the development of illegal Israeli settlements in the Palestinian West Bank. According to a Peace Now report\, the Bennett government significantly increased the development of illegal settlements on Palestinian land. The report also refers to Bennett’s support for the eviction of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem in favor of establishing illegal settler housing units there. In addition\, he previously served as a Director of the Yesha Council – an organization that seeks to expand settlements. \nCanada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied since 1967 (the Golan Heights\, West Bank including East Jerusalem & Gaza Strip). In fact according to Canadian policy\, the UN\, & international law\, Israeli settlements are war crimes. As Bennett’s planned arrival approaches\, a pressing question lingers: will Canada uphold the rule of law? \nPanelists: Shane Martinez & Nicholas Pope\, lawyers who filed the complaint & mandamus application\, Michael Lynk\, Prof Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario & former Special UN Rapporteur for Occupied Palestine\, Khaled Mouammar\, Palestinian-Canadian\, a founder of the Canadian Arab Federation & former member of the Immigration Refugee Board of Canada (a signatory to the request.) \nSupporting organizations: Canadian Foreign Policy Institute\, Palestinian & Jewish Unity (PAJU)\, Just Peace Advocates. \nQuestions in French will be translated for the panelists\, and answers from the panelists in English\, translated to French \nRegistration for Webinar/Press Conference (Zoom); https://bit.ly/BennettJun13 \nContact: info@justpeaceadvocates.ca

SUMMARY:MONTREAL - Rally for Palestine: 75 Years of Nakba
DESCRIPTION:MONTREAL\nJoin us in front of the Zionist Consulate this May 14 as we march on the main streets of Montreal and forward toward liberation. As we reach the 75th year of the ongoing Nakba\, we must remain steadfast in our struggle and demand an end to Zionist aggression and colonisation of our homeland.\nWe call on the Montreal community to show up in numbers and to send a clear message to the Zionist entity and its colonial allies: wherever we are\, generation after generation\, we will continue to confront Zionism.\nUntil liberation and return \nConsulat sionniste\, 1 Westmount Sq

SUMMARY:Valérie Boycott Israeli Apartheid
DESCRIPTION:Come ask Mayor Valérie Plante questions about the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. \nThe 2022 Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal will take place on September 11 in Montreal and to this end\, the City of Montreal is a public partner of the sporting event of international scope. The City therefore assumes an important part of ethical responsibility in the promotion of this prestigious\, high-caliber competition. \nFacing such serious crimes as apartheid and racism\, silence means approval. The argument that we should not mix politics and sports is false. Government financing of sports is clearly political when a participant has the aim of promoting Israeli Apartheid. \nThe Union Cycliste International (UCI) has banned Russian and Belarus teams from its international calendar including the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and Québec. Most Russian and Belarus athletes have not taken a position on the war in Ukraine. \nThe Israel Premier Tech (Israel Start-up Nation) has proclaimed itself an ambassador of Israel to the world and requires that all its racers also be ambassadors for Israel. \nThe Grand Prix must not be used to promote Israeli Apartheid. \nValérie Plante: Why not respect the human rights of the Palestinian people?\nWhy not boycott Israel Premier Tech? \nHave questions for our elected officials? Come ask them! \nA public question and answer period is held during each council meeting\, whether ordinary or extraordinary.\nEach person may ask only one question. \nHere’s how it works:\nhttps://montreal.ca/en/how-to/submit-question-to-city-council

SUMMARY:Night Demo - Make some noise for Palestine
DESCRIPTION:ISRAEL: AN APARTHEID STATE GUILTY OF STATE-SPONSORED TERRORISM\nIsraeli occupation forces have once again launched a military aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli apartheid regime is calling this aggression (one of a series of criminal attacks on Gaza spanning a number of years) an attack on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement\, but in reality\, as stated by Samidoun\, the Palestinian Prisoners Network\,” it is an attack on the entire Palestinian people — in Gaza\, throughout occupied Palestine from the river to the sea — and their comprehensive resistance in all forms”. The Palestinians in Gaza are over 70% refugees\, and have been denied their right to return home for 75 years. As a people under military occupation\, Palestinians have the legal right to resist that occupation ( guaranteed under international law ). Palestinian and Jewish Unity supports the Palestinian people’s right to defend themselves by way of all forms of resistance. \nPAJU fully endorses the following statement from Samidoun: \nIt is clear that the United States\, Canada\, the European Union countries\, Britain and other imperialist powers are fully responsible for the crimes of the occupation\, providing it with the weaponry that has been used to commit these killings\, and has enabled the ongoing Nakba targeting the Palestinian people for the past 75 years\, providing it with military\, political\, economic and diplomatic support. Rather than recognizing the Palestinian resistance’s legitimacy\, these imperialist powers target the resistance organizations with “terrorist designations” and repression. This makes it more urgent for our movements to declare collectively: Resistance is not terror! \nIt is to be noted that Article 7.1.j of the Rome Statute (which provided the basis for the founding of the International Criminal Court) states unequivocally that apartheid is a crime against humanity. In that respect\, the governments of the above-mentioned imperialist countries are complicit in a crime against humanity. That makes them governments led by criminals! Let it also be noted that there is no statute of limitations regarding war crimes and crimes against humanity. We acclaim the government of South Africa for its demand that Israel be called out as an apartheid state. \nPAJU joins Samidoun in calling for “mass\, political and media events in all locations in the diaspora and around the world in order to defend our steadfast Palestinian people against the Zionist aggression and its ongoing tightening of the siege on the Gaza Strip.” We call on Montrealers of all denominations and backgrounds to join the demonstration in support of Gaza and against Israel’s state-sponsored terrorism to be held tomorrow August 6th at the corner of  Berri and Ste. Catherine streets at 7 PM. Bring your Palestinian flags and make some noise for Palestine! \n-30- \nInformation: \nChadi Marouf (English) \nBruce Katz (French)

SUMMARY:Festival international Nuits d’Afrique boycott Israeli Apartheid
DESCRIPTION:Festival international Nuits d’Afrique is once again marred in controversy over its 2022 edition. Not only did the organizers fail by naming a white Quebecois to be the spokesperson of the events\, they also promote Israeli apartheid by inviting the Israeli music group PULKES BAND. The band is well known for cultural appropriation\, promotion and whitewashing of Israeli Apartheid and colonial tactics.\n \n\nCome to our vigile\n\n\nScène TD – RADIO-CANADA\nParterre du Quartier des spectacles (corner St-Urbain / de Maisonneuve)\nDate: 07/20/2022\nHeure: 17:30

SUMMARY:Come ask Mayor Valérie Plante questions
DESCRIPTION:Democracy in action! \nCome ask Mayor Valérie Plante questions about the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. Come ask them June 13th! \nA public question and answer period is held during each council meeting\, whether ordinary or extraordinary.\nEach person may ask only one question. \nHere’s how it works:\nhttps://montreal.ca/en/how-to/submit-question-to-city-council

SUMMARY:Mayor Plante : Time to withdraw the Israel Premier Tech cycling team of the Grand Prix Cycliste
DESCRIPTION:  \nCampaign launch : Stop the race : Don’t collaborate with Israeli APARTHEID\nThe launch will take place in front of the Montreal Municipal Council at 155 Notre Dame East (Lucien-Saulnier building) Monday May 16 at 5 pm.\n  \nWe invite you to the launch of the campaign against the participation in the Montreal Grand Prix of the Israel Premier Tech cycling team\, a team sponsored by Premier Tech\, a Quebec company\, which proclaims itself an ambassador for Israeli apartheid. \nThe 2022 Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal will take place on September 11. The City of Montreal is a public partner of this international sporting event. The City therefore assumes an important part of ethical responsibility in the promotion of this prestigious\, high-calibre competition. \nWe should remember that during the campaign of boycott\, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against apartheid in South Africa in 1986\, the former mayor of Montreal\, Jean Doré\, declared Montreal an anti-apartheid city and banned any commercial relations with South African suppliers. \n  \nNelson Mandela\, Winnie Mandela\, le maire Jean Doré\, sur la scène du Champ-de-Mars\, le 19 juin 1990. Crédit : Archives Hôtel de ville de Montréal \n  \nPalestinians and Jews united (PAJU) urges the Mayor of Montreal to follow the example of Jean Doré and make Montreal once more an anti-apartheid city. We must not continue commercial relations with a state which practices a system of institutionalized segregation and which ignores law and human rights. \nPAJU (Palestinians and Jewish Unity) is now in its 22nd year of existence. As an organization of solidarity with the Palestinian people and defender of human rights\, our campaign in front of the city of Montreal carries one demand and one only: the intervention of the Mayor for the withdrawal of the Israel Premier Tech cycling team of the competition. \nThis launch will take place in front of the Montreal Municipal Council at 155 Notre Dame East (Lucien-Saulnier building) Monday May 16 at 5 pm.\nCome join us! \n
