SUMMARY:Together for Gaza and Palestine Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Together for Gaza and Palestine:\nDEMAND SANCTIONS AGAINST ISRAEL!\nSince October 2023\, incessant bombardment\, successive evacuation orders and Israel’s merciless blockade have reduced the Gaza Strip to rubble and plunged its entire population into conditions of flight\, hunger\, disease\, exhaustion\, trauma and grief. 70% of civilian infrastructure has been destroyed\, 36\,479 killed (civilians)\, 10\,000 buried under rubble and 82\,777 injured (as of May 31\, 2024). \nOn May 6\, Israel rejected a negotiated ceasefire agreement that Hamas had just accepted. Defying all warnings\, Israel has launched its announced offensive on Rafah\, the last refuge for 1.5 million Palestinians. Already\, one million people have been forced to flee Rafah for devastated areas that have no facilities to\naccommodate them and are more difficult for humanitarian aid to reach. \nHow far will Canada’s abhorrent complicity go? \nFor months\, Canada has been content to argue for Israel’s right to defend itself\, a right that does not exist under international law for an occupying power. Meanwhile\, from October to December 2023\, Canada authorized record levels of arms exports to Israel. It claimed it was shipping only “non-lethal” military\nequipment but provided the media with only heavily redacted documents. It then announced that it would not approve any further military sales but would honour already signed agreements\, although the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had ruled on January 26 that it was plausible that Israel was committing acts of genocide in Gaza. \nAs Israeli atrocities mounted\, Canada expressed “concern” and eventually called for a ceasefire. On February 12\, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said that an invasion of Rafah would be “totally unacceptable.” But for almost three months\, Canada did nothing to prevent it. On the contrary\, it continued to support Israel. On May 10\, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to admit the State of Palestine to the UN. Canada abstained. This was\, in the words of Justin Trudeau\, a “fundamental shift” in policy. \nSanctions against Israel now \nAll human life is sacred. All human rights violations must be condemned and those responsible held to account. Canada’s inaction is abhorrent and contrary to its international obligations. We call for tough sanctions against Israel\, starting with an embargo on all military equipment. Canada’s special bilateral relationship with Israel\, including the free trade agreement\, must also be reviewed: business as usual is not an option. Going ahead with the opening of the Quebec office in Tel Aviv\, on the pretext that the decision was made before October 2023\, is shameful. Sanctions must be imposed until a just and lasting solution is established\, giving concrete form to the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to equal rights in the land of Palestine. We should be wary of Western attempts—led by the U.S.\, with Canada following loyally behind—to impose a “two-state” solution\, one of which\, the Palestinian state\, would not be viable. \nIT IS NOT ANTI-SEMITIC TO UPHOLD THE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE! \nSignatories as of today \n

SUMMARY:BOYCOTT ISRAEL! Demonstration for the abolition of the Quebec Office in Tel Aviv
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 6\, 2024\n19h\n175 avenue President-Kennedy (Place-des-arts metro station) \nDespite the daily horror of the bombings\, the CAQ government is determined to open a diplomatic office that will intensify economic and political relations with the Zionist entity.\nFor almost eight months\, the popular movement for Palestine has been fighting for companies\, institutions and governments to sever their ties with the genocidal Israeli state. \nWith the setting up of solidarity camps for Palestine\, the repression and judicialization of the struggle\, we have proof that popular pressure is making leaders tremble. \nAt UQAM\, the Al-Aqsa camp succeeded in obtaining from the Board of Directors a timid symbolic resolution outlining the terms of support for the academic boycott. The McGill administration and the CAQ government\, on the other hand\, have given in nothing. The struggle must intensify. \nWe demand: \n\nthe abolition of the Quebec office in Tel Aviv\nan immediate end to all inter-state and inter-institutional agreements with Israel\nan academic boycott of all universities contributing to the colonization of Palestine\ndivestment from companies complicit in Israeli colonialism\n\nNo one is better placed than youth and the working classes to force the government\, corporations and universities to stop supporting the colonization of Palestine.\nLet’s not be discouraged by the state’s attempts to stifle the movement. \nFrom Tiohtià:ke to Gaza\, we need an intifada! \n

SUMMARY:A unified large demonstration: Together for Gaza and Palestine
DESCRIPTION:Massive demonstration for Gaza and Palestine \nSaturday March 23\, 2024 at at 2 pm in Dorchester Square  \nSaturday March 23\, 2024 at at 2 pm in Dorchester Square there will be a unified large demonstration gathering most groups and organizations involved with support for Palestine and most in Quebec who oppose the Israeli ongoing genocide in Gaza. Currently 34 groups including PAJU have signed the declaration of principles. More will be added every day. We hope this will be a massive demonstration similar to those against the war in Iraq. Be there! \nBelow is the English translation of the declaration signed by more than 117 groups\, organizations and unions: \nTOGETHER FOR GAZA AND PALESTINE! \nTOGETHER FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE! \nOver the past five months\, like many Quebecers\, we have been sickened by the horrors Israel has inflicted on the Palestinian population of Gaza: incessant bombardments; 31\,342 people killed\, 7\,000 missing under the rubble\, 70\,043 injured (as of February 26\, 2024); civilian infrastructure devastated; ambulances\, health workers and journalists targeted; more than 8 but has recently restore its financing5% of the population displaced; the entire population plunged into acute food insecurity and in many cases starvation\, and deprived of drinking water\, medicine and fuel by the blockade. \nIn the first three months of the assault alone\, 10\,000 children were killed in Gaza\, 20 times more than in Ukraine in 18 months (500). According to UN experts\, “it is unprecedented to make an entire civilian population go hungry this completely and quickly.” \nOn January 26\, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that it is plausible that Israel is committing acts of genocide in Gaza. The ICJ ordered Israel to prevent such acts and to “enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance.” But since then\, the situation has worsened\, and Israel is now preparing to lay siege to the city of Rafah\, at the southern tip of the Gaza Strip\, and to expel 1.5 million people who have ultimately sought refuge there. \nCanada’s position is shameful \nIn response to these crimes\, Canada has expressed “concern” for the fate of the civilian population but continues to invoke Israel’s “right to defend itself” and refuses to condemn its countless violations of international law. Since October 2023\, it has approved record levels of military exports to Israel. The day after the ICJ decision\, Canada announced that it was suspending its funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA)\, on which two million people depend for their survival but recently restored its financing. Instead of demanding that Israel let the already existing aid entre by the land route from Egypt\, Canada announced it participation in a maritime corridor which is considered to be inadequate by the United Nations. By its actions\, Canada is complicit in Israel’s criminal assault on Gaza. Canada’s deeds speak volumes about the hypocrisy of its rhetoric. \nFor life\, justice and peace \nWe call on Quebecers to support the Palestinian people’s right to life by demanding: \nan immediate ceasefire and the free flow of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza \nan end to direct and indirect Canadian military exports to Israel \nthe lifting of Israel’s blockade of Gaza \nWe also call on Quebecers to demand an end to Israel’s decades-long military occupation and colonization of Palestine\, which is at the root of the current crisis. For 30 years\, phoney “peace processes” have led only to more dispossession\, violence and humiliation for the Palestinian people. A just and lasting solution is needed now. Quebec civil society can contribute to it by joining the international boycott\, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. \nIT IS NOT ANTI-SEMITIC TO UPHOLD THE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE!

SUMMARY:RASSEMBLEMENT À BAS JUSTIN LE GÉNOCIDAIRE

SUMMARY:"Teach-In" on Palestine
DESCRIPTION:CIRFA is initiating a series of “Teach-In” activities with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the various crises shaking various countries in the South\, of which the mass media either provide insufficient and biased information or ignore altogether. \nGiven the current situation in Palestine\, CIRFA is starting with this region. \nAround sixty people\, from all generations and backgrounds\, in solidarity with the Palestinian cause\, attended the first Palestine Teach-In on occupation and resistance. Rachad Antonius and Amir Khadir outlined the genesis of the conflict\, demonstrating the mechanisms that exacerbated the situation\, leading to today’s tragedy. A rich and lively debate followed. \nThis Friday\, November 10\, 5.30pm\, a second Teach-In activity will be organized to better understand the situation of women\, their perspective within the conflict and their contribution to the struggle of the Palestinian people. \nThis Teach-In will be presented by Zahai El-Masri\, Palestinian activist and long-standing feminist campaigner\, and Tara Alami\, member of the Palestinian feminist movement and writer \nLes Teach-In sont gratuits et auront lieu au \nCIRFA\, Salle 2.10\, \n1710 Rue Beaudry\, Montréal\, QC H2L 3E7\, Québec

SUMMARY:On Bastille Day : FREE Georges Abdallah!
DESCRIPTION:A vigil calling for liberation of all political prisoners \nPalestinian and Jewish Unity\, invites you to attend a vigil in front of the French consulate in Montreal to honor all Palestinian prisoners and their allies and in particular freedom fighter\, Georges Abdallah\, jailed in France since 1984. \nThe Storming of the Bastille happened in Paris\, France\, on 14 July 1789\, when revolutionaries stormed and seized control of the medieval prison and released all political prisoners. \nThis July 14th\,  we will stand in solidarity with Georges Abdallah and all Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails. We demand Georges Abdallah’s immediate release from Lannemezan prison and recognize that political prisoners — whether they be in Zionist or French jails — are on the frontlines of the Palestinian struggle and we must always amplify their cause. \nEmbodying the Palestinian ethic of “sumud\,” or resilience\, Georges Abdallah continues to engage in the very same fight he was targeted for. Indeed\, during his detainment\, Georges Abdallah has repeatedly participated in hunger strikes and refused meals in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners inside occupation prisons. \nGeorges Abdallah is held as a political prisoner in Lannemezan prison in France. He is considered the longest serving political prisoner in Europe and has been eligible for release since 1999. However\, his release has been obstructed by the French and American governments at every turn. \nGeorges Abdallah was targeted for his commitment to the fight for Palestinian liberation\, for his role as a revolutionary thinker\, and his involvement in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Lebanese Revolutionary Armed Factions (LRAF). Georges Abdallah’s trial which sentenced him to life imprisonment in 1987 was marked by irregularities. One of his lawyers – Jean-Paul Mazurier – was revealed to be an agent for a French spy service and some of the evidence against Abdallah was also revealed to have been fabricated retroactively by French\, American and Israeli intelligence services. Despite this\, the validity of the trial and its results have never been formally contested despite numerous attempts. \nWe recognize that his arrest and detainment is an attempt to stifle the Palestinian and Lebanese revolutionary spirit. We also condemn the French regime whose detainment of George Abdallah is only possible because of their collaboration with the Zionist and American regimes. We also condemn the Lebanese regime for its shameful inaction which has allowed Georges to remain hostage to France’s collusion with the Zionist regime. As organisations\, movements\, and individuals in Quebec we affirm our full and complete solidarity with Georges Abdallah and demand his immediate release. We will continue to honor Georges Abdallah’s persistent fight until full liberation and return. Free Free Palestine! \n\nLocation: 1501 Av. McGill College\, Montreal\, Quebec H3A 3M8\nDate: July 14th 2023\nTime: 12:00-2:00PM

SUMMARY:Webinar/Press Conference zoom
DESCRIPTION:Journalists are invited to ask questions following the presentations. If you will be attending\, please register at https://bit.ly/BennettJun13 & also let us know your name & organization by sending email to: info@justpeaceadvocates.ca prior to the event. \nDescription: \nOn May 29\, lawyers filed a request on behalf of a Palestinian-Canadian & 3 Canadian orgs asking the government declare former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett inadmissible to Canada before he is set to speak in Toronto on June 14. The request contended that Bennett should be denied entry to Canada pursuant to sections 35(1)(a) & (b) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. \nOn June 2\, 2023 an application for mandamus was filed in Federal Court. This asks a judge to compel the Minister of Public Safety to make a decision on Bennett’s admissibility.  The request to ban Bennett is specifically related to Bennett’s deep involvement in the development of illegal Israeli settlements in the Palestinian West Bank. According to a Peace Now report\, the Bennett government significantly increased the development of illegal settlements on Palestinian land. The report also refers to Bennett’s support for the eviction of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem in favor of establishing illegal settler housing units there. In addition\, he previously served as a Director of the Yesha Council – an organization that seeks to expand settlements. \nCanada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied since 1967 (the Golan Heights\, West Bank including East Jerusalem & Gaza Strip). In fact according to Canadian policy\, the UN\, & international law\, Israeli settlements are war crimes. As Bennett’s planned arrival approaches\, a pressing question lingers: will Canada uphold the rule of law? \nPanelists: Shane Martinez & Nicholas Pope\, lawyers who filed the complaint & mandamus application\, Michael Lynk\, Prof Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario & former Special UN Rapporteur for Occupied Palestine\, Khaled Mouammar\, Palestinian-Canadian\, a founder of the Canadian Arab Federation & former member of the Immigration Refugee Board of Canada (a signatory to the request.) \nSupporting organizations: Canadian Foreign Policy Institute\, Palestinian & Jewish Unity (PAJU)\, Just Peace Advocates. \nQuestions in French will be translated for the panelists\, and answers from the panelists in English\, translated to French \nRegistration for Webinar/Press Conference (Zoom); https://bit.ly/BennettJun13 \nContact: info@justpeaceadvocates.ca
